A Thirty-Year Legacy of Excellence

For three decades, Grassfield Homestead has stood as a beacon of sustainable, ethical livestock production. Founded in 1994 on 40 acres of rolling pasture, the homestead began as a small family operation with just a handful of chickens and a single dairy goat. Through dedication, selective breeding, and a deep respect for animal husbandry, Grassfield has grown into a trusted source for some of the most sought-after heritage and production breeds in the region. Thirty years of continuous operation have refined every aspect of the farm—from pasture rotation systems to genetic selection—ensuring that each generation of animals is healthier, hardier, and better adapted to life on grass.

Superior Genetics and Proven Bloodlines

At the heart of Grassfield Homestead’s success is an unwavering commitment to genetic excellence. Over the past 30 years, the homestead has meticulously developed and maintained closed herds and flocks featuring the most purchased breeds in the industry: Rhode Island Reds and Plymouth Rock chickens, Nigerian Dwarf and Nubian goats, Pekin and Khaki Campbell ducks, Embden and Toulouse geese, and New Zealand and Flemish Giant rabbits. Each breeding decision is documented, with lineage traced back multiple generations. This long-term approach has produced animals known for exceptional disease resistance, calm temperaments, high fertility, and superior production traits—whether measured in daily egg counts, butterfat content in milk, or growth rates in meat breeds.

A Trusted Legacy for the Next Generation

Today, Grassfield Homestead supplies breeding stock, hatching eggs, and starter animals to small farms, homesteaders, and families across the region. Longtime customers return year after year, not only for the animals’ performance but for the documented health records, honest advice, and generational knowledge that only 30 years of experience can provide. The homestead has also mentored dozens of beginning farmers, hosting workshops on pasture management, rotational grazing, and heritage breed conservation. As Grassfield Homestead looks toward the next 30 years, its mission remains unchanged: to produce great animals through great care, continuous improvement, and an enduring commitment to the land. Whether you are starting your first backyard flock or expanding a commercial herd, Grassfield Homestead offers the genetics, experience, and integrity that only three decades of excellence can deliver.

Passionate About Animals

Marilyn McDonald

I’m 35 years old and proud to work at Grassfield Homestead, where I’ve helped raise thousands of healthy animals over the years. From baby goats to fluffy ducklings, I pour my heart into every hoof and feather. Being a woman in this field means leading with strength, compassion, and a love for the land.”

Jerry Banks

“At 55, I’m one of the proud founders of Grassfield Homestead, building this farm from the ground up alongside my husband. For over three decades, I’ve raised thousands of chickens, goats, ducks, geese, and rabbits — learning from every season, every sunrise, and every challenge. As a woman who helped shape this legacy, I still work the pastures with the same heart and calloused hands I started with.”

Pamela Bailey

“I’m 27 years old, the daughter of Grassfield Homestead’s founders, and I’ve grown up in these pastures alongside the animals. From collecting eggs as a little girl to now managing daily operations, this farm is in my blood. I’m proud to carry forward my parents’ 30-year legacy with fresh eyes, deep respect, and a second generation’s love for the land.”
